Curtains' tells the story of Barry Shepherd, a worn out Punch and Judy man. After 50 years working the wooden dolls it's time for a splashy puppet finish, an adieu.
As things begin to fall apart around him, Barry's life becomes increasingly pervaded by the reality of his tawdry and violent profession. Drinking and cursing his way unrepentantly onwards, he continues with the show, even as it threatens to destroy him and take his soul...
The film was produced by BAFTA-winner Diarmid Scrimshaw of Warp Film in association with Made Up North.

THE CONDUCTOR |
On the Festival Circuit
|
The Conductor, written and directed by Geof Wolfenden, is one of Made Up North's latest short film productions and is currently on the festival circuit.
When the heavens open with a powerful electrical storm, it is the duty of the conductor, played by Seamus O' Neill, to embrace the fierce elements.
This imaginative tale is accompanied by an impressive music score by Ian Livingstone.

'The Conductor' tells the magical story of an old man's battle against the elements as he goes about his calling, which has been passed down from father to son for generations.
He checks and re-checks the multitude of barometers and thermometers hanging on his walls until the needles spin and the temperature drops; a storm is coming. Armed only with a battered wooden fishing rod he sets out into the storm to catch and bottle a perfect lightning strike.
As the power from the lightning bolt surges through his cottage it travels up through the network of copper wires and the huge central light of the lighthouse tower, lighting the way for all.
The visual tone is similar at times to a Sin City ' - stylish, graphic and powerful - and is inspired by filmmakers like Ridley Scott, David Fincher and of course Steven Spielberg.
The film is without dialogue and relies wholly on its breathtaking visuals and sweeping orchestral score to tell the story.
