Stacey Murray Glaswegian Stacey Murray moved into the film industry from a successful career as a lawyer.

 

After graduating from the University of Glasgow with an honours degree in Law in 1990, she left Scotland to qualify in English law with the prestigious international law firm Clifford Chance.

 

She was admitted to the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1995 and to the High Court of Hong Kong in 1997, the year that Hong Kong sovereignty reverted to China. Working across Europe, the US and Asia, she acted for banks, corporations and governments in high-value structured finance transactions for over 12 years, including five years in Hong Kong and a year as legal counsel for JP Morgan Chase.

 

In 2005 she gained an MA (Dist.) in Media Studies from Sheffield Hallam University, where has since lectured in the subject. Her Masters dissertation, entitled ‘Passion and Pessimism: Structuring Influences on Independent Film Producers’, won the inaugural Tessa Perkins memorial prize for best dissertation.

 

She joined Made Up North the following year as Managing Director, focusing on company and project finance and management as well as the creative development of the company’s slate of feature films.
